[US News] National Broadband Map http://fxn.ws/iiG6N6 1st public searchable nationwide map of broadband Internet availability has just gone live!
That’s interesting Phil thanks for the link into the specific detail. Do you know if we have anything like this for the uk?
I know we have some maps on this website for cumbria but I’m looking for more stuff as a comparison to other areas and other countries. We are seriously lagging behind places like Switzerland and Japan and even places like Latvia and Romania are far ahead of the UK. Meaning that they are able to take advantage of what these new speeds will bring for consumers and businesses.
This was a report from back in 2009; http://www.broadbandanalyst.co.uk/broadband-news/uk-ranks-21st-30-fastest-broadband-nations-oecd-report/
And another article from April 2010; http://www.broadbandanalyst.co.uk/broadband-news/bt-analyst-faster-broadband-infrastructure-boost-uk-economy/
I though this was an interesting article from PC Pro - Called The Broadband Speed Con:
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2011/01/27/broadband-speed-con-its-all-our-fault/
And another from ZNet - UK Keeps trailing in broadband speeds:

it does make me wonder about Cumbria being a pilot for this may get ”super” fast broadband to the area - but at what cost - and I am not just meaning - Perhaps we will be lumbered with a poor solution that will not stand the test of time - like Project Access. I’m not sure but it all seems like we might be sold by the County Council and BDUK to the lowest bidder given the funding situation.
Not aware of a comprehensive UK survey, let alone one with public mapping. Most are circles around phone exchanges.
TBH I’m passed the comparison stage personally, there’s an opportunity to improve and how are we going to do it.
I do get a bit stuck when the 50% of the population that can get Virgin cable show only 3% takeup of the 50M service !
