The interim braodband group met again to discuss the best way forward. We have agreed to ask surrounding parishes in the North Fells to join with us in the search for better broadband. Letters have now been sent to all the parish clerks and a number of the broadband champions have already been in touch. So far all of them agree that there is…[Read more]

The Broadband Meets Localism Conference was held at the racecourse yesterday: all of our group were able to attend together with a number of interested people from other parishes. It was good to meet some of the people whose names have become familiar to us through this site over the last few weeks. The meeting was introduced and ably chaired by…[Read more]

After quite a lot of interaction on the Cumbria County Council ‘have your say’ site we have been accused of hijacking the thread (so that worked then!) and a new thread has been created so that people can continue to pursue the topic of Broadband for Cumbria on the county Council’s consultation site. As with [...]

I could do with an edit button here as my link didn’t work so I’ll try again. http://cumbriacc.ning.com/forum/topics/our-savings-options-whats?id=6211779%3ATopic%3A706&page=10#comments. There isn’t an actual thread but we did get a fairly heated discussion going together with a response from Eddie Martin which you will see on the site or which you…[Read more]

Big Society Broadband Vouchers Part of the puzzle for BDUK is how to drive demand for better broadband. How to accelerate and deepen uptake particularly from the so-called Digitally Reluctant? How to encourage folks in general to take an interest in boredband (sic) and move en-masse at the same time to the stage of demanding [...]

Actually Chris those are the totally foreseen consequences. What we are all trying to do on this blog is identify as many consequences as possible so that we can eradicate, or at least anticipate and cope with, as many foreseen consequences as possible. Unforeseen consequences will reamin just that until they spring up. I reckon [...]

Hi Guy, I have been on the CCC have your say site and have been asking how much rural superfast broadband would save CCC. Eddie Martin’s response has been that it’s too hard for him to understand: It’s a long way above my payscale too but at least I’m trying. Could anyone else get in [...]

Although those of us who have been online for sometime may seem somewhat ‘wedded’ to their current provider I have heard it suggested that ISPs no longer do the job they originally did. Which is to say it’s not necessary to have email provided by your ISP, who actually connects to the internet and seeks [...]

We will meet again in the new year to discuss further how we can get FttH for everyone (in and around) our parish. We welcome all comers and look forward to any comments from people who haven’t already expressed an interest in the subject. There will be…[Read more]

We are the Rosley and Westward community group. We think that the best way to gain better broadband is for as many communities as possible to band together and make ourselves into a viable economic possibility.
Anyone interested in this idea is invited to join the Rosley and Westward Community group on this site. The ward is a good starting point…[Read more] - Load More
