OFCOM have announced price controls on specific elements of BT’s “IPStream Connect” 8M service. This will result in the price of those elements falling by 12% below inflation (say 8% per year) equivalent to a cost saving to a retail ISP of about 50p/month per year.

Just did the test: 0.94mbps download speed and 0.23mbps for upload. That’s pretty poor, yes???

“it depends” - it would be good for a 1M fixed speed service, poor if you were on a variable rate service next to the exchange and brilliant if you were 8km away ! Where are you approx ?

I am in Greysouthen, a village 3 miles outside of Cockermouth-
Hi Claire, Can you run the rest at speedtester.bt.com and cut&paste the results here (the text out of the box in the middle of the results page).
Sky and TalkTalk also have kit in your exchange, which ISP you with ?

there’s one speedtest on the map for Greysouthen using BT as the ISP that reports at 0.45 down / 0.36 up. You did better downstream but not up.
