Motivating stuff and exactly what Rory and government want to hear based on Rory’s speech on Saturday - Listen carefully at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLk2foU_4h4&p=0FB6CCA183CA70A6
especially the 4:30 point about funding. -

Hot off the press 6th December - 61 pages of government strategy. Some excellent aspirations, some dissappointingly vague - there is a lot of work to do to get funding and backing for FttH to rural areas. Full report here:

Hi Kate.
As the new web/forummaster for Penrith and North Lakes U3A I am trying to get 450 members to adopt and contribute to the forum so that I don’t become a ’website hamster’ trying to keep the site up to date posting notices, photo’s for members of over 40 activity groups. The Eden Rural Foyer has offered to help introduce our members to using the forum - but any other ideas and assistance would be most welcome. In reply to - Kate Norman posted an update: @lanceg Would be interesting to hear more about what your up to with the U3A Penrith group (and wesbite) I’ll take a look this afternoon. I’m based in Linstock if you are ever up in my neck of the woods. · View -

Look for:-
”As for the 40 new rural market towns that BT intends to include into its ”super-fast” broadband roll-out, these will be revealed alongside the next list of exchange upgrades in January 2011. The towns can then expect to benefit from BT’s new service from late 2011/early 2012.” -

Colin - could you enlighten me WiMax, LTE?
Best site I have found for Fibre Map
http://www.ispreview.co.uk/story/2009/11/12/uk-next-generation-fibre-optic-broadband-nga-rollout-map.html
It also has latest news on BT strategy for Rural areas (ie. FttC)In reply to - Colin West posted an update: C.H.I.P.S. stands for Cumbrian Highspeed Internet Provider Solutions. this is what we are all seeking after all is it not? There may be different solutions to this problem. Fibre optic is obviously known and accepted but it won’t be viable for everywhere; does anyone have a fibre optic map of Cumbria? [...] · View -

I would like to make contact with others to create a coordinated ‘Leith Valley’ micro website - similar to Lyvennet Valley Community Broadband’. I have a contact at Bolton - is there anyone interested in Moreland, Great Strickland, etc???
