The more ISPs the merrier it would seem - many ISPs have effectively removed ‘net neutrality’ by basing their charges on download volume, leaving you paying through the nose for video content (which appears to be one of the key online resources for most users). Happy New Year!
I’ve been looking through the impressive US National Broadband Plan website (http://www.broadband.gov/).
They’ve a bigger budget, certainly, but the plan itself rather puts last month’s UK Government offering to shame, describing SEVEN other benefit areas beyond economic opportunities, including a schools and libraries…[Read more]

The education issue concerns me, too. E-learning is now a well-established model (particularly in higher education) and this has shifted the goal posts in a matter of years. It’s really a new form of literacy in that sense, and there’s the potential here for a very serious educational divide.
