Are you ARE the Broadband Champion & Hub Coordinator for you area … then maybe the County Council are guilty as charged. If you don’t have the information and a clear line of communication who does? Hi William - Which area are you in. I think that this new report is just a story to push through any councils dragging their heels or not moving forwards as quickly as central government want to meet the targets that they are trying to reach. i think it is right that the County Council work at a pace that is manageable with the limited resources.…[Read more]

I think I remember that there was a tech issue when this was added after some had already joined the community. Log in to the site. Go to edit your profile and then under the Opt out of Petition title un-tick the checkbox. Save and then re-check the box and Save. Then click on the Petition link and you should find your name at the top of the list!

I live in this bit of the map - the bit that says 0.3Mb I have tried lots of things with upgrading internal boxes and cables but it appears that the issue is external. If your getting as pissed off (like me) with your broadband as I am you could always report sub 2Mbps connections http://www.broadband-notspot.org.uk
Any other suggestions of things I can do to identify ideas of sub standard broadband?-
As far as Cumbria and Lancashire are concerned it is better to highlight the reasonably good areas, most of our counties are covered in notspots, too many to count probably. One of the things we have noticed in our 10 year campaign to get broadband is that we don’t show up on surveys, because the people in the notspots can’t register online.…[Read more]

Is your connection at the speed it should be is always the first question as a low speed test result could indicate a number of different problems other than just line length.
There have been several collections of notspot data, but if there is no will to do anything about them I see no point in adding to them or starting another. When someone…[Read more]

Satellite has higher latency but that is not a problem for email, downloads, streaming etc. You have to offset the extra 700ms against the increased throughput.

Not aware of a comprehensive UK survey, let alone one with public mapping. Most are circles around phone exchanges.
TBH I’m passed the comparison stage personally, there’s an opportunity to improve and how are we going to do it.
I do get a bit stuck when the 50% of the population that can get Virgin cable show only 3% takeup of the 50M service !

Thanks Kate. The launch went great, with representatives from all over the country. There are lots of blog links on the b4rn website and videos of support from Neelie Kroes, Andrew Stott, Trefor Davies, Kansas Google gigabit city, and lots more. Also letters, emails and tweets supporting the project. Thanks to all who made it happen. GameOn.
